NWS North Central West Virginia Spotters,

The ARRL-NWS Skywarn Recognition Day Committee is excited to announce that registration for the 2024 edition of Skywarn Recognition Day (SRD) is now open!

This year is the 25th anniversary of SRD, which was developed together by the National Weather Service and the American Radio Relay League, a partnership that is still running strong! SRD celebrates the contributions that Skywarn volunteers make to the NWS mission, the protection of life and property.

All Skywarn spotters provide critical weather information before, during and after adverse weather strikes. This includes reports of rain and snow, ice and wind, storms and tornadoes, flooding and fire. This is our 24 hours to recognize all of the Skywarn spotters serving our nation!

Amateur radio operators comprise a large percentage of the Skywarn volunteers across the country. The amateur radio operators also provide vital communication between the NWS and emergency management if normal communications become inoperative. While a large focus is placed on our amateur radio volunteers, SRD is about celebrating and recognizing ALL Skywarn spotters, including non-amateur radio operators.

This year's edition of SRD will run from 00z Saturday, December 7th through 00z Sunday, December 8th (7pm EST Friday, December 6th through 7pm EST Saturday, December 7th). The SRD Website is up and running for 2024. Participants in SRD (both amateur radio and non-amateur radio spotters) should fill out the registration form.

If you could fill out the link titled registration form above before 11:59pm December 7th that would be much appreciated.  You can see all the SKYWARN spotters who checked in on the SRD website.

Thank you!  Wishing you all a safe and joyful Thanksgiving!
