POTA POTA POTA!!!
Mark your calendars: April 20th (third weekend in April) is the Official POTA Spring Event
In conjunction with the event the Mon County Amateur Radio Club will be setting up at Coopers Rock State Forest on Sat April 20th. Everyone (even the unlicensed family members and friends) is invited to join us. Feel free to bring your equipment or use ours. At an open event even the unlicensed can talk on the radio, they simply call out using the club’s call (we’ll have a licensed club member with them).
THE DETAILS:
We will set up just before the main parking lot at the end of the entrance road before the ‘Store’ (same place as last year). There is a very large open (gravel) lot before the actual parking lot. That’s where we will be, small tents or sun shades are ok. There are a lot of trees for antennas so we can spread them out a bit more than last year.
WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER??
April is notorious for bad weather so here’s the plan:
The MCARC has its regular business meeting and testing that same morning at 9:00 AM at the American Legion in Dellslow. We will hold the meeting and testing as usual and will head to Coopers Rock immediately after. Most of the members will get to Coopers by 11:15 or so. We will have at least one or two who skip the meeting and get there early to grab the spot. Join us at the meeting or go directly to Coopers Rock and meet us there.
We should be on the air by no later than 2:00PM. Hopefully earlier. We’ll go until ?????
IF THE WEATHER IS BAD ….
If the weather is bad enough that we have to cancel we will get an email to everyone on the MCARC list no later than 930 AM. We will also get on the K8MCR repeater (146.925) and announce a reminder of the event or the cancellation. Not a net, just a quick announcement repeated several times for all to hear (we’ll announce a reminder even in good weather).
