The Pittsburgh National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Monongalia, Greene and Marion Counties. The advisory has been issued this morning for an upcoming snow event occurring this afternoon and through late tonight.
The current projections are for 4 to 6 inches in Monongalia, Marion Greene and Preston counties starting in the late afternoon and ending Saturday at 7 PM.
Should the NWS issue a Winter Storm Watch, we will bring the SKYWARN Net into Standby Mode. We ask that you monitor the 145.430 MHz repeater starting this afternoon and through the evening. We will be looking for your current snow totals and any road conditions that you are aware of at the time. (All you need to measure snow is a ruler of some sort stuck in the snow. You do not need a fancy snow gauge--although it's great if you have one.)
Remember, due to our distance from the NWS in Moon Township, PA, the Pittsburgh NWS RADAR can not see Morgantown, Fairmont or any location in Preston county. We are out of their coverage range. Therefore they rely on our SKYWARN reports. The Pittsburgh media (KDKA, WPXI, WTAE, etc.) also can monitor our reports and use them to update their weather reporting for our area.
