Let's look at what is in store for us this evening for Morgantown’s
Christmas Parade.
I have spoken with the NWS Pittsburgh who have been nice enough to provide
us with our own evening weather forecast. They report that, at this time,
the forecast is still the same except for one important difference.
Temperatures have risen overnight from 39F at midnight to the current (as
of 08:30 EST) of 47F. This has caused the snow line to move further north.
(See the attached graphic.) It also suggests that the temperature at 17:00
when the parade kicks off will be warmer than expected and any
precipitation will be rain and not snow.
>From the NWS Pittsburgh:
*Those gusty winds will continue in Morgantown through this evening with
gusts up to 25 to 30 mph. The precipitation should remain rain through the
day. The change over to snow will occur in Morgantown by 10pm with the
passage of a cold front.*
*As the cold front arrival time affects them as well, we consider pushing
back the blizzard warning start time in Preston and Tucker Counties until
sometime this afternoon as well.*
Preston and Tucker Counties are still expected to have blizzard conditions
with snow accumulations between 4 and 7 inches and winds gusting as high as
55 mph. So heads up there! As for the lowlands, Morgantown and Fairmont are
expected to see a dusting to an inch by tomorrow morning.
I expect to receive updates from the NWS Pittsburgh throughout the day.
Should there be any significant changes I will certainly pass them along.
