The next meeting of the Monongalia Wireless Association (MWA) will be a
special public meeting open to all hams and their guests. It will take
place at the WVU football stadium in the press box. Doors will open at
about 5:00 PM, and Bill, WR8S, will be our host and guide.
The meeting will take place on* Tuesday, November 9, 2034, at 7:00 PM*, but
between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM,Bill will conduct tours of the indoor
facilities at the stadium. These *may* include locker rooms, weight and
exercise rooms, medical support rooms, trophy displays, and electronic
hookups used by national TV and Radio.
At 7:00 PM, MWA will conduct its meeting. Current topics include:
- Election of officers for 2025 (if this takes more than 5 minutes I
will resign as president).
- Discussion of a joint project to involve Monongalia Wireless
Association (MWA), Monongalia County Amateur Radio Club (MCARC), and the
West Virginia University Amateur Radio Club (WVUARC). This project will
involve building multiple Automatic Packet Reporting (APRS) System nodes.
- The plan of the project is for each ham to build an APRS adapter that
can connect to a simple handheld radio (e.g., Baofeng UV-5 or similar
two-meter radio that has VOX operation). The assumption is that many local
hams have one of these in addition to another handheld, although that is
not necessary if you are willing to put your only hand-held radio on packet
radio to ID your station.
- The idea is to decide on a circuit to build, and, in the near future,
have all participants deposit payment for parts to a WVUARC team leader who
will purchase the parts and lead a mass building session to take place at
WVU in a large room to be provided by WVUARC.
- Possible short presentation of news by WV Section Manager, Dan Ringer,
K8WV.
- Maybe some cleanup discussion of MWA repeater news.
I hope to see you at the meeting. Please spread the word quickly to local
hams.
73,
Jan Ditzian, KX2A, President, MWA
