The NWS Pittsburgh has issued several Winter Weather Warnings as well as a
Special Weather Statement for North Central West Virginia locations NOT
under any Winter Weather warnings. This is to cover the potential of snow
squalls, wind gusts, wind chills, and rapidly dropping temperatures. I
summarize these below.
I have been asked about Skywarn activation on the W8MWA two-meter repeater.
Except for some wind gusts the weather is quiet at the moment. However,
this will change overnight.* Therefore I expect the North Central West
Virginia Skywarn Net to activate at least in Standby Mode tomorrow morning
between 07:00 and 08:00.*
*Please monitor the repeater in the morning if at all possible.*
Now here is the current situation in abridged form. All of the below are in
effect from now until 19:00 (7 PM) on Thursday evening.
*Greene County, PA; Marion County, WV and Monongalia County, WV *are all
under a *Special Weather Statement* for wind gusts of 40-50 MPH and snow
squalls. Less than an inch accumulation is expected but snow squalls will
limit visibility. See the attached graphic for the Special Weather
Statement areas.
*Preston and Western Tucker Counties* are under a *Winter Storm Warning*
for snow (2 to 4 inches) and wind gusts up to 40 MPH.
*Eastern Tucker County* is under a *Blizzard Warning* for heavy snow (4 to
6 inches) and wind gusts up to 45 MPH.
