On Tuesday, there will be the weekly meeting of those who have no
productive jobs and who meet at Los Mariachis in University Town Centre
at 12:00 noon to eat lunch, gossip, argue, form cliques, and generally
do socially unacceptable things that are discreetly kept behind a wooden
wall separating us from the normal customer base. This meeting is
called, in ham parlance, Taco Tuesday. If you want to be one of the
cool nerds, join us. There is no initiation or dues, but we won't buy
your lunch, either.
Also on Tuesday, July 19, is the monthly meeting of the Morgantown
Wireless Association, INCORPORATED. This particular club meeting will
not take place at the Red Cross, where any injuries you sustain can be
patched up. Instead, this July 19 meeting, at 7:00 PM, will take place
at the Milan Puskar Center, more commonly known as the WVU Football
Field. We are there courtesy of Bill, WR8S, who has a way with these
things. We will be at the Press Box, above the West Gate. Take the
elevator to the third (3) floor. You should be able to park nearby.
Bill will also probably conduct a tour of some of the center's facilities.
Additionally, Bill will collect callsigns and post them on what he calls
the video board, but which you may know as the huge SCOREBOARD at the
south end of the field, to the right from the Press Box. Bring your
camera (cell phone), and take a picture of yours. It will be the
largest presentation of your callsign that you will see during your
lifetime. You can print the picture and put it in a frame in your ham
shack, then replace it when you earn the 5 Band Worked All Zones award.
If you intend to take this route, make sure that you back up the picture
with something strong, like steel plate, because it is going to be there
for quite a while.
