Hello, Everyone:
Starting with Saint Patrick's Day of 2020, most of West Virginia was
closed. Along with restaurants, stores, and so much else, we had to
curtail our in-person meetings at the Red Cross office in Morgantown.
As time progressed, we realized we were in this for a long haul and Zoom
meetings started up, as some way to keep us in touch with each other and
have some level of continuity with club operations. Still, this is a poor
substitute for the physical and personal aspects of being in the same room
with each other.
Now that West Virginia has been a leader in converting vaccines into
vaccinations, a number of us have given some serious thought to holding
in-person meetings, once again. Much of this is dependent upon whether we
can get our former meeting venue back or possibly find an alternative.
Even with a good number of us having received our vaccinations, we have
state mandates and other considerations. In consulting with some members
of our healthcare community, the wearing of masks and keeping appropriately
distant from each other are more than just good ideas.
As always,, the good health of every MWA member and visitor is of the
utmost importance, so we also need to take into consideration anyone with
compromised immune systems, those with ongoing respiratory issues, and so
on.
I will again update you on this, once some response from our contacts at
the Red Cross has been received.
Onto another topic, Field Day is coming up on the last full weekend of
June. Here again, we have the opportunity to assemble our team of portable
stations and operators - if - there is sufficient interest in this event.
Much of the same considerations given to in-person meetings are shared
here, as well.
Also, many restaurants have reopened their inside dining areas. More
formalized (if that's the right word) lunches like Taco Tuesday/Thursday
could resume - again - if there is interest.
Please share your thoughts about the topics above (or other things on your
mind) through the MWA reflector. I believe that everyone can benefit from
an intelligent exchange of thoughts and ideas.
Best regards,
Cory Sickles, WA3UVV
