Greetings All,

Final plan for JOTA - October 17, 2020

Where: Camp Mountaineer - 187 Camp Mountaineer Road, Morgantown (off the
Grafton Road)

11am 12:30 - Cub Scout Program (Scouts age 6-11)

1pm - 3pm - Scouts BSA program (Scouts age 11-17)

Ham arrival time: 9:30am Departure time for hams: 4:30pm

NOTE: The attention spans and interests of the Cubs are different from the
older Scouts BSA. Apparently last year everyone was mixed together and it
was difficult to adapt the programs, so this year we will spread out the
program for the different age groups.

For COVID-19 risk mitigation everyone will be masked, and we will create
cohorts of 10 people (scouts and adults) who remain together throughout the
day and will rotate through the stations together. All stations will be
outdoors, under some sort of roof. Because there will still be some risk,
if you are high risk, you are encouraged to sit this one out and we look
forward to your assistance in future years.

We will set up 5 stations for the day, spread out across the core of the
camp, in pavilions and outdoors locations with power (and internet for
those stations who need that). I need to go scout out the camp in the next
week or so to make certain that the electricity is on and accessible and to
verify internet coverage and the potential to hang wire antennas so we can
make final location assignments for the stations.

Stations:
HF - Voice (Terry K3JT)
HF - Voice (Morning) / FT8 in the afternoon (Geno)
Radio Direction Finding (Jim KC8YUI)
DMR Hotspot using JOTA talkgroups (Randy N8OZY)
Jamboree on the Internet (Zoom-like chats with scouts from across the
globe) (Mig K8MIG)

Several hams have expressed interest in assisting and/or running stations
for the event, Thank You very much for stepping up. We will need 2-3 hams
per station to make this work, so we still need more help. If you are
available please email me directly cwerntz1 at gmail.com .

Also let me know if you have an idea for a station not mentioned above that
would be cool for the scouts to see and understand, which would fit well
into a 15-20 minute slot, and would be more or less consistent over the day
(for example, a single pass of a low earth orbit satellite that would only
work for 4 minutes is not a great fit).

I will work on some sort of COVID-safe lunch for folks who are helping out.

73, Carl WA3ZZU
