I was speaking to Okey (W8OHW) today on the phone and he has a bit of a
dilemma we are trying to rectify. His old tower partially collapsed the
other day when he was attempting to bring up his new antenna(s)... the good
news is the antennas were not harmed... the bad news is his old tower is
toast.
He has a new tower on order... but he will need to broaden the existing
cement tower base for the new tower to sit upon. What he is going to need
to do is gently excavate around the sides of the existing cement base to a
depth of about 3 feet to tie in and pour additional concrete to make the
existing base pad a bit bigger to accommodate the shiny new tower base. I
doubt it would take very long to scoop out the edges. There is easy access
to the base of the tower.
Okey lives just off the Mt. Morris exit of I-79. Does anyone have or know
of a small farm tractor with a backhoe (or small excavator) he might employ
to nibble a bit of dirt to get him up and running again? If so, please
give him a call at 304-276-7131 He sure would appreciate any assistance we
can muster up!
