[W8MWA] The Net Before Christmas

The Net Before Christmas T’was the net before Christmas And all through the
shack not a needle was stirring Not forward nor back. It was late Christmas
Eve, yet I stayed on the air hoping that someone would CQ from out there.
Some cables were hung on my shack wall with care In case they’d be there
for a needed repair. With the warmth of the radio all life seemed at peace
I started to doze, XYL was asleep
Then out of the speakers there rose such loud chatter I turned to my radio
to see what was the matter. I trimmed the gain, and threw open the squelch
And my dinner came back as I let out a belch LED’s were all shining red
green and some blue, They gave a holiday luster to all of the room. There
were voices excited, oh what a strange net He is coming they claimed and as
fast as a jet! I keyed in “Who is coming? And as fast as a jet?” The reply
was “Santa you LID are you clueless still yet?” So I ran outside to crank
down my tower So he wouldn’t get caught in aluminum and wire. When I got
back inside I heard a thump on the roof And the stomping of reindeer with
their little black hooves I rushed to the room where my fireplace dwells
Anxious to watch him and his accompanying elves I had left him some liquor,
vodka, whiskey, and rum Also beer, wine and nachos for a little more fun.
And a special note nearby hoping to be quite endearing That I hoped that my
presents were from DX Engineering, Well he and his elves came down covered
in soot And I wondered what was in his big bag of loot. A 7300, with an
Alpha and more? Lots of great things I’ve seen in the ham store. I’ll just
have to wait til they head back outside Until then I crouched down, my face
I did hide. He then put out each gift that was on his big list Then
double-checked his work, so that nothing was missed. The liquor they drank
warming them down to their toes Then quick they took off, up the chimney
they rose. I ran to the window his sled I did see With it’s antenna
attached as he worked QRP And as he rose to the heights like Sporadic E He
said 73’s OM and to all… FB!
