Greetings all,

At the next MWA meeting on Tuesday 3/17/15 we will be doing a hands-on antenna construction project to build a 2m/440 sleeve- or coaxial-dipole vertical antenna. This is the ideal antenna for temporary emergency operating. It is very broadbanded, linear (no radials), small (about 40" high) and you can either hang it from a rope or put it up on a non-conductive pole. This is the same antenna I presented about at the January meeting.

If you want to build an antenna I ask that you bring along your own coax and connector. RG-58, -8x, or LMR-240 work fine. I don't think heavier coax (RG-8 sized) would work. I recommend a longer coax run (40-50 feet) so the antenna can be useful without needing additional coax.

If you want to put a ring on the top, please bring that as well. A threaded eye bolt ((shaft not bigger than 3/16") with appropriate nut seems to work best).

I will bring the PVC pipe, pipe ends, radiating element tape, conductive tape, and tie-wraps.

I have attached a word document that describes the antenna. FYI: ASRC is the regional search and rescue conference

Hope to see you on Tuesday 3/16
