THIS SUNDAY OCT 19, 2014 @ 2PM -
This week at the Press Box at the Stadium
NOT at the Conference Room at HSC!!!!!
Bill's going to be there early to get us set up.
+ I'm pretty sure Mike & Libby and Rachel are planning to be there.
+ I still haven't gotten a yes/no from Jordan & Alyssa.
+ I still have not heard from Robin. I'd hate to think she'll show up at HSC
and nobody will be there.
Not sure if anyone else from the club is coming.
PLAN FOR THE DAY:
1) EXAM PREP:
Who has what questions? About ANYTHING? (TECH/GENERAL/EXTRA)
Let's check up how folks are doing getting ready for exams. Who needs
books? I only have one Gordo Tech book left, and need to make another
order soon.
2) SOLDERING:
I have some RG-213 coax and PL-259 connectors. I want to make sure
everyone is comfortable with installing PL-259s.
3) DIPOLES:
MYSTERY DIPOLE - I found a dipole in a box. Let's examine it and determine
what band it's made for.
Dipole fixin's -- if anyone wants a dipole I have wire and insulators...
4) POWER POLES:
I found my box of powerpoles. Did NOT find the roll of red/black zip, but
I have some other wire we can install powerpoles on.
5) DIGITAL MODE:
WR8S helped me set up two digital mode stations. I was hoping to show
them off last week but it's just nasty trying to get that much stuff into that
conference room. Should be easier to get them into this room, so we should
be able to do some HANDS-ON PSK-31 and RTTY. We tried it out on HF into
dummy loads, but there's no reason we can't do it on 2 meters.
UPCOMING PROJECTS:
PACKET:
I am about 90% complete collecting what we need to demo PACKET on
2-meter FM. This is simplex, probably 145.01MHz or thereabouts.
I have two individual stations ready to go, but still need to get a BBS up.
PVC & TAPE MEASURE YAGI:
I stopped by the $1 store and found some tape measures that might be
just right for Tape-Measure Yagis... at least the price was good.
Have not found box of PVC TEEs and CROSSES yet. It's somewhere, but
I haven't had my hands on it since Field Day.
COPPER CACTUS J-POLE:
I also found TEEs, ELLs and CAPS for 1/2" copper. I don't have the
1/2" copper pipe yet, gonna look at that this coming week.
WACOM (Washington Area Communications) HAMFEST:
Sunday, November 2, 2014. Washington County Fairgrounds, Washington PA.
This is a good experience for anyone getting started in ham radio. It's a
small hamfest but a pretty good one.
If you're ready for the Tech exam or to upgrade to General, they do them
there.
IDEAS FOR FUTURE ACTIVITIES:
SATELLITE, FOX HUNT, FSTV, DX, CONTEST, VHF/UHF WEAK SIGNAL DXING,
MORSE CODE, E-M-E...??
Cheers,
