[W8MWA] Technical question

Id suggest you find one that has an FTDI chipset. Non-FTDI models sometimes
will give you headaches trying to locate / install the correct driver
especially in Windows Vista and above. Depending on the brand, they
sometimes wont work at all. A lot of the FTDI models will not require you
to install an additional driver as Windows will detect it and automatically
install it. I would avoid any that use a Prolific chipset. If you do a
search on the web, youll see lots of complaints from Prolific devices and
forums suggesting FTDI as well.

I have a model made by Sabrent which uses FTDI and it works perfectly with
my TinyTracker. I also use these a lot to console into network switches and
have yet to have a problem with an FTDI model.

Do a search for "USB to Serial FTDI" and you should find what you need.

HI DEAN AN DAN,

I HAVE USED SEVERAL TYPES OF THIS DEVICE AND EVEN MAKE TWO TYPES FOR MY
PROJECT. AFTER YOU INSTALL THE USB DRIVER OR THE DEVICE

YOU MAY NEED TO USE "CONTROL PANEL/HARDWARE MANAGER TO GET THE COM PORT
ADDRESS TO MATCH YOUR HARDWARE.

I HAVE EVEN USED THESE WITH WIN-7. DEAN GIVE ME A CALL (296-9175) AND WE
CAN HELP YOU CLEAR OUT ANY PROBLEMS YOU HAVE.

Have you considered searching for "DB9 to USB adapter"? There are a large
number out there. Even Walmart offers them.

Hi people.. I have a question regarding my Alinco DR-635T and the Alinco
EJ-50U TNC module.

The module is a plug in unit the resides within the radio, the output is via
an D-Sub 9 connector on the rear of the radio. I know some of the older GPS
units like Garmins and so forth had an D-Sub 9 Serial connector on them, but
the burning question is how do I hook up a modern one.

Maybe there is some form of a plug in type of GPS that will be compatible
with the 9 pin?.. Using the 9 pin seems outdated to me, most items as we
know use an USB connection.

So I am open to ideas before committing myself to a purchase of this item.
I would love to hear any feedback regarding this.

I feel this is Bills (K8BDR) fault, as I have been seeing him floating
around on the APRS Google maps, in fact he is on the move as I type this..
lol

Hope you are all well, thank you in advance.
