The white-haired guy is DJ9KH.  The big guy in the black shirt is Bruce,
ZD7VC (source of coffee).  The shorter guy in jeans and the military-style
shirt is Peter, ZD7FT (waiting for the last part of his new antenna).  Now
that W3UR has these, the pix may appear in QST.  You may forward them to
the club if you desire.

Arriving from Cape Town on voyage 204 of the supply ship ST. HELENA on the
19th February 2014 was a German Amateur Radio Operator Werner Hasemann DJ9KH
and his wife Helga with a two-fold mission.  Back in the early 1970's Werner
made contact via Amateur (Ham) Radio with Peter Constantine ZD7FT on the
tiny remote Island of St. Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean and since that
time has had a burning desire to meet the Ham Radio Operator that he'd
spoken to thousands of miles away and so some 40 years later the opportunity
arose that he would engage in a Dx-pedition to Ascension Island signing as
ZD8D for three weeks and instead of flying from the UK he would travel the
long way round via the Islands only life line which is the 6,767 GRT ST.
HELENA, a five day voyage which he describes as being "lonely".
 After exiting the shipping lanes on day one of the voyage he recalls not
seeing another ship, fish or bird!

On arrival at the Island they lost no time and exited Jamestown by way of
Jacobs Ladder - 699 steps straight up the cliff face and quickly sought out
Bruce Salt ZD7VC (whom he had e mailed before leaving Germany) and his wife
Charmaine ZD7A who arranged for them to meet Peter ZD7FT and exchange QSL
cards which is customary among Amateur Radio Operators.
Werner & Helga spent two days at St. Helena during the stopover of the ST.
HELENA and departed for Ascension Island on the evening of Friday 21st
February 2014.

Amateur Radio Operators often work many hundreds of thousands of stations
worldwide annually and could be considered the backbone of the Postal
Service as QSL cards for each (but not necessarily every) contact are
exchanged.
