Greetings West Virginia Amateur Radio Operators,
The amateur radio world is changing and we must evaluate how we wish to
address these changes in relation to the annual ARRL West Virginia State
Convention. In order to perform this evaluation, the WV State Amateur Radio
Council (WVSARC) needs your input.
At the March and July 2013 meetings of the WVSARC discussions occurred
regarding the future of the WVSARC and the ARRL WV State Convention. Points
of concern are:
. Lack of participation in the planning of the ARRL WV State
Convention.
. Decrease in attendance at the State Convention.
. Some attendees do not purchase an entry ticket.
. Lack of support from the WV clubs to provide amateur related
demonstrations for the event.
. Failure of clubs to keep their information current on the WVSARC
website.
As a part of the discussion, the suggestion was made to investigate moving
the ARRL WV State Convention to another location, such as the Charleston
Hamfest.
If there is interest in maintaining the WVSARC and ARRL WV State Convention
we must consider:
* Should the convention change?
* Should a new venue for the state convention be pursued?
* What types of forums, demonstrations, activities, and other events
would you like to see presented at the convention?
* Should the Council send out a request for proposals to host the
State Convention?
This is not a simple or quick process. In addition to the future of the
State Convention, the council must also consider its assets, including
approximately $7000.00 as a carryover for the planning of the next
Convention, and the Council station call sign of W8WVA.
The Council cannot move forward without your input and participation. The
next Council meeting will be held at the Parkersburg-Wood County 2013
Hamfest on October 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lower Level of the Wood
County 4-H Center. The council urges all interested amateurs to attend this
meeting.
If you are unable to attend the October 12, 2013 meeting, the Council
requests that you forward your comments o and suggestions for the future of
the Council and the Convention to marnold9651 at gmail.com or Norene Arnold,
51 Rock Forge Lane, Morgantown, WV 26508.
The Council looks forward to hearing from you.
