[W8MWA] D-Star

Does anyone know if there are any D-Star repeaters around the Morgantown
area? I don't currently have a D-Star capable unit but I would be
interested in buying one if D-Star is available around here. According to
the D-Star repeater list, it looks like the closest one is in Pittsburgh on
146.82000MHz. I can hear a transmission on it every few seconds which
sounds like static - Im not sure if that's what D-Star sounds like or if its
too far away to hear it well.

Ive also seen a D-Star access point which connects to your computer and
allows you to use a 2M D-Star radio to work with D-Star without a repeater.

Im still learning about D-Star and would be interested to hear your thoughts
about it. The one thing I don't like about it so far is that it uses a
codec that is not freely available and requires a D-Star compatible radio or
a $200 hardware decoder.

Thanks,

Dave
