(Noon Sunday, 8/26) The Hurricane Watch Net will continue operating today on our primary frequency of 14.325 MHZ as tropical storm Isaac moves toward the gulf. To take advantage of good propagation into the area, HWN will also be operating on 7.268 MHz this afternoon. Stations in the affected area are encouraged to report your weather conditions and monitor for updates.

As always we appreciate your courtesy, and we appreciate your reports! They have been a big help so far.

Update:

The Hurricane Watch Net plans to take a rest Monday, 8/27, while Isaac makes its way across the Gulf. The Hurricane Watch Net will resume activity Tuesday morning, 8/28 – time to be dictated in part by the storm’s location. Because the storm will be stateside, HWN plans to operate on our primary frequency, 14.325 as well as 7.268 in order to gather more information. If conditions warrant, we would include 80 meters but watch for activation emails, website posts and net announcements if that takes place.

We appreciate the numerous check-ins and reports we had Sunday! We also very much appreciate your courtesy in listening to the net, and allowing a clear frequency. Our thanks to good friends (and excellent operators) who ‘live’ on 7.268 – the Waterways Net and the 68 group. For your planning, we may stay on the air Wednesday depending on the storm’s impact and location. The strength and location of the storm will make that decision fairly obvious.
