I stumbled across this earlier today and thought others on the list
might be interested:

It makes a few good points on what keeps folks interested in ham radio
in todays age of pervasive access to communications.  I know for me
the ability to experiment with various bits of RF spectrum and having
a method for out-of-band communications initially sparked my interest
in the hobby.
