I did Navy MARS when I was a kid (there was no internet then, boys and girls ;-), but apparently it's still going. Back then it was primarily a way to get messages from servicemen overseas to stateside, and vice-versa. Now, I gather it's more for emergency comms.

My name is Ron Grossman, AF5Q, and on behalf of the Oklahoma Army MARS State Director, Wade Norris and US Army MARS, I would like to request that the following attachments be shared with your clubs and any interested hams alike that would like to participate in Oklahoma Army Mars.  This email is not intended to be Spam.

Oklahoma Army MARS membership is very low throughout the state.  We are looking for new members that would like to learn more about emergency services and give those that are interested a chance to further serve their state and country.   Participation is basically one hour a week, and 15 hours in a quarter.  There is a chance for learning more about communications, procedure, and also a sense of accomplishment.
