If you attended the June meeting, you would have heard the whole presentation. Of course we should recruit women, and young people but our best bet is men age from 30 to 40 years.

Moreover, amateur radio has been considered a guy’s hobby for far too long. Sure, women have been hams as long as there have been hams. The YLRL has been around since the 1930’s. But surely the reasons for more women not being hams aren’t limited to aptitude or interest? Do women feel welcomed and valued as equals? With the push for encouraging more women to explore STEM fields, should the same not apply to amateur radio? I’d love to see more female hams, and not just because their voices break DX pileups more readily. I’d say that our hobby will be richer for the addition of more women and more youth. Maybe with younger people, their ham radio won’t look like your or my ham radio, but ham radio is, as Dave Bell said, the world’s greatest hobby. And that’s because it’s very, very broad, with far more facets than many of us will ever be able to explore fully. Many aspects that we won’t all *want* to explore. (I have little interest in digital non-cw modes, for instance, and less interest in microwave and up work.) Anyway, bring in the women. Encourage them, mentor them, and for goodness sake don’t talk down to them! I think too many women get the message that this is not a place for them, and it really is. It should be. We’re all human beings looking for connection, or expanding our knowledge, or learning something interesting. There’s room for all of us.
