Hello John,

That's to bad. I was looking for someone to take over the 61 repeater, Nick could have been that person.

                   Rick

Rick,
I thought you would enjoying reading this interesting e-mail I got this morning from N3KGD Nick.
He is the young ham who has the Ford Police interceptor and is a security guard up at the Casino. He worked up at 911 Center before.

Effective immediately, I will be discontinuing any volunteer and public service in relation to amateur radio. This includes Erie County SKYWARN and the Erie Area Mailbag Net. It was a pleasure serving for both of these operations the past several years, however, with the continued degraded Radio Association of Erie repeater systems and the near lack of upkeep or maintenance of their repeater equipment not to mention continuous failures for months on end with no apparent thought or care on resolving these issues for public service nets as previously mentioned, I will be stepping down and surrendering my radio equipment. Radios are going to be shut off and sold, and the FCC will be contacted on Monday to terminate the license held by me. After numerous attempts at bringing to the attention of the Radio Association of Erie their lackluster maintenance and failing repeaters, not to mention offering help and being turned down, I was told in so many words tonight to "go fuck myself" if I'm not happy with the repeaters and that if I'm not happy with them, don't use them. RAE club president Doug, AD4UL and Mike, N3GKS amongst others also had their comments telling me to take off, so I will step down. It's pretty pathetic when we try to run public service and have crap and failing equipment for over six months, and the RAE feels they got the best system in town. Links never working, poor audio levels amongst other things. People have volunteered to help and have been turned away. So, if this is how RAE wants to represent amateur radio around here and instead of fixing the issue for over six months that has been brought up, tell me if I don't like it to take off, I guess that's what I am going to do. As long as the repeaters work for AD4UL's precious 9pm ragchew net or his public service events, that's all that matters and everyone else can go get bent. I will not be on the airwaves any further nor will I be continuing participation with any area clubs. I wish everyone the best of luck and thank you for allowing me to serve our community. Unfortunately, things have changed and there are clear issues that don't want to be resolved and evidently I'm the issue. In my honest opinion, there is no reason we should even be running nets on those repeater systems that aren't maintained properly or with a club whom has a lackluster attitude in believing their stuff don't stink and instead make other people the problem when they have clear issues they don't want pointed out for six months that don't get resolved. I seriously hope no one gets hurt one day by using such faulty radio equipment such as SKYWARN operators in the field. So, I will be taking the advice of Doug and Mike amongst various others. This is another chapter of my life I can write off and move on. It was a pleasure volunteering but it's time to move on. I've been told in so many words I'm the problem. I was also advised during an emergency SKYWARN net how to conduct and operate my station and how to speak and talk and to use proper vocabulary. So, evidently I'm a poor radio operator as well.

UCWA: I will be surrendering the Lee Road tower site key to Lee Williams, N3APP.

Best of luck to everyone in their future endeavors. I will no longer be on the air and in fact the license will be terminated once completed from the FCC.

I don't have everyone's email so feel free to redistribute as necessary.
