Greetings Fellow Erie Area Hams:
I decided it was time for me to clean out the "junk box" and prepare myself for a move to a smaller accommodation. No, I do not mean a pine box, just a smaller house. The decisions are tough, but ones that I want to make and not ask my kids to do when I am a SK.
ERIE HAM RADIO PAPER NEWSLETTERS ARCHIVES
While performing my clean-up, I came across the following printed items related to ham radio in the Erie area:
QUA-RAE Newsletters--1969-1977
I have not inventories these, so there may not be an unbroken span.
R.A.E. Repeater Committee Activities--1973-1974
WR3ACA repeater licensing and newspaper article at the old Turnbull elevator tower. This is the repeater that succeeded the one at Chuck Smith's house on Arlington Road and became the first official R.A.E. licensed repeater. Included is information on the move to the rear of the Bliley Electric Company on West Grandview.
Crawford Amateur Radio Society Newsletters--1973-1974
These club's historians would be a good destination for these. Is there anyone servicing in that role? Total material adds up to about two inches of paper. Much less for C.A.R.S.
Does anyone have any leads?
OTHER ERIE RADIO HISTORY--TWO METER AM IN THE 1960S
For those of you who operated two-meter FM in the 1960s as I did, you may enjoy listening to several record recordings I made off the air.
Chuck Introduces Himself on a Two Meter AM Contact C1960 (AIFF Format)
Here is an extract of me introducing myself to another ham radio operator during my first year on the air. Some of my speech patterns were influenced by hams in Dunkirk and southern Ontario. You can laugh if you like. I will not be offended. ;-)
Bill Barczynski, KN3UIK, Ham Radio Friend on Two Meter AM C1961 (AIFF Format)
Bill was one of the real characters on the two meter band in Erie. He was a great and generous guy who was new to ham radio. Bill's nephew became the husband of Debbie's sister, Lisa Noble Barczynski in the early 1970s.. Bill died a short time later in 1972. I wrote a eulogy for him in the local ham radio club newsletter.
Other Two Meter QSOs
This recording contains conversations with my ham radio buddies in the early 1960s on the two-meter AM amateur radio band. The year is probably 1962. File format is QuickTime (.MOV)>
Thefollowing are the people with which I was conversing. These are low-tech recording and tape recordings and poorly done, but it is fund to hear some of the old timers on two meters. :-)
