Three vital communications courses are being taught in the Commonwealth
over the next four months. Could you please assist us by getting the word
out about these courses. It took us two years to bring the courses to
Pennsylvania and we hope that everyone who wishes to attend has the opportunity.
If we can’t fill these classes we will find it even more difficult to
schedule them in the future.
All-Hazards Communications Unit Technician (ComT) Course:
Eleven (11) seats are available in the Communications Technician course To
be run at BCCC from August 3rd-7th. They are available on a first come,
first seated basis. Please follow the instructions on the attached flyer.
The prerequisites MUST be submitted for these and ALL Emergency Management
courses being conducted. This course is a “technical specialist course”
and therefore students should be trained in “technical” skills. This
course is not specifically designed for ARES/RACES and ACS personnel but they
are welcome to attend the course. The prerequisites for this course are
outlined in the attached flyer.
All-Hazards Communications Unit Leader (ComL) Course:
Twenty-seven (27) seats are available in the Communications Unit Leader
course To be run from August 28th-30th at the PEMA Conference. They are
available on a first come, first seated basis. Please follow the instructions
on the attached flyer. This course requires that all applicants complete a
FEMA form 119A and have their supervisor sign it. This documentation
along with documentation of completion of the prerequisite courses must be
turned in prior to admittance into this course. This course is designed for
personnel who will be in charge of a group of communicators. You learn
to plan ahead and how to fill out the FEMA ICS Documentation required by the
communications unit. You learn to deal with personnel problems sometimes
encountered during deployments. This course is not specifically designed
for ARES/RACES and ACS personnel but they are welcome to attend the
course. The prerequisites for this course are outlined in the attached flyer.
Auxiliary Communicator (AuxCom) Course:
Twenty-nine (29) seats are available in the Communications Technician
course To be run at BCCC from July 25th-26th.. They are available on a first
come, first seated basis. Please follow the instructions on the attached
flyer. This course is designed for Amateur Radio Operators with at least a
General Class License who will be operating out of a County or State
EOC/Radio Room or who will be communicating with State and County ARES/RACES or
ACS Operators during a disaster or large scale event. The prerequisites
MUST be submitted for these and ALL Emergency Management courses being
conducted. The prerequisites for this course are outlined in the attached
flyer.
Verifying the prerequisites for EVERY course is vital to the integrity of
the instruction program with which FEMA and the Emergency Management
Institute has entrusted us. Thank you so much for assisting the PEMA Training and
Exercise Division in maintaining this trust.
Thank you for sending your employees and/or volunteers to these courses
to hone their technical and management skills so that they may more ably
serve the 12.7 million citizens of Pennsylvania during times of disaster,
both large and small.
Sincerely,
Susan
