Oct. 18 is the JOTA. The RAE will have two locations where we will be operating.
At the Club House from appox. 11:00 AM to 4:00. Dan Rhodes, KA3CTQ will be running it there. Contact him for details and if you would like to attend to help out, especially with educating the Scouts as to the benefits and enjoyment possible through Ham Radio. This is a great opportunity for us.
The second site will be at the Albion Borough Park, from 9:00 to around dusk. Our station will be set up in a building right near the tennis courts. In the morning the Cub Scouts are having their "Chuck Wagon" event where they go in groups to 5 or 6 different activity areas. Our station will be one of them. In the afternoon they are arranging for the area Boy Scouts to come in to do JOTA. Again, a GREAT OPPORTUNITY for us to expose these youngsters to Ham Radio. We are going to try to have 2 operating positions set up. I think PSK will have great appeal to the kids...Just like texting!!
We could use at the Albion site club members to talk to and keep the others interested while 1 or 2 from each group operate. Explain "Q" codes to them phonetics.. Emergency preparedness, Skywarn, Ares... I will have a practice code set set up for them to use. Send their name to them in Morse .Explain about DX, QSL cards, Awards, contests. BRING YOUR HT'S. Can use to have scouts talk to each other Simplex and to talk to the other Scouts at the Club House on the .820
If you are interested in helping out you can contact me e-mail or cell 814-795-4501...or just show up...
73's...Mike WB3DEL
