Here are some useful links, videos, and info on D-STAR

D-STAR the basics.
The DV-DONGLE:
Use your computer and headset or microphone and speakers to access the
D-STAR network.

The DVAP-DONGLE (either 2m or 70cm):
Connects to your computer via USB. Has an RF antenna that allows your DSTAR
radio to access the D-STAR network. (works a few hundred yards with
supplied antenna. Basically used when a city wide repeater is not available
to you.)...basically a mini repeater in your home. Or some people have used
Verizon cellular hotspots to take DVAP's on the road if no city repeater
exists.

Or use your D-STAR enabled radio to access D-STAR connected repeaters.
(does not require DV-DONGLE or DVAP-DONGLE).
If we had a D-STAR repeater and it was linked up to a reflector, we could
expect to have a lot of voice traffic throughout the day and have access to
all that traffic.
