I would like to start a team of radio operators identified as Erie Waterway
Watch that monitor marine radio traffic for emergency maritime events, self
activate and respond to a location on the lakefront or bayfront to observe
the incident. An Erie Waterway Watch net would be activated on 61 and a net
control operator identified. The observing team members would report
incident specifics to net control and in turn net control would report the
incident to USCG Station Erie via cell phone.
This idea, for me, developed from current programs named America Waterway
Watch and the Citizen Action Network run by the USCG Auxiliary in Washington
state and Louisiana. Do a Google search for America Waterway Watch and USCG
Citizen Action Network to review those programs. Click on link below for the
Washington program.

Have I discussed this with USCG Station Erie? No, I want to have a team up
and running before I would speak with them.
I see Erie Waterway Watch "EWW" as a combination of SKYWARN and public
service events.
I see Erie Waterway Watch "EWW" as a great way to promote amateur radio and
RAE to the public and as a recruitment tool for amateur radio and RAE.
I especially would like to see the "EWW" team active with the 2013 Tall
Ships event.
If interested in participating, answer here or email me at

Input would be much appreciated.
