Good evening...
I have visited Erie a few times and passed by there
on I-90 heading south to FL or over to Dayton for
the Hamfest.
My last visit was from Fri. Jul. 29 to Mon. Aug. 1
My wife and I have relatives in Erie ... her brother,
my nephew who is a member of the Erie Police
force and my neice.
I have announced myself several times on the
local repeaters and there was never a response.
"This is VE3MEW mobile W3 listening.." etc.
I do not understand why there was no reply,
nobody wanting to chat or even say hello.
Here in Peterborough, I monitor our two local
repeaters, both VHF and UHF and I can assure
you, if we heard a strange call we did not know,
we would certainly be responding... "Welcome to
Peterborough." "Where are you from. ?" "Is there
anything we can help you with..?" etc etc. "Was
nice to chat with you .... 73."
One would tend to get the impression that the hams
in Erie are not very warm or friendly to visitors.
