POTA (Parks on the Air) has 4 official weekend events each year called Support Your Parks. They fall on the 3rd full weekend of January, April, July, and October.
Well,...; the July weekend is now, July 15-16, starting at 0000 UTC Saturday till 2359 UTC Sunday, I have to admit, it snuck up on me.
I plan to go to Washington's Crossing St Park (K-1634), and sit next to the River. Is coincides with the Delaware and Raritan Canal (K-1613), and the Lower Delaware National Wild and Scenic River Park (K-0684). It will be a 3-fer!
It's a little tricky to upload the .adif file to POTA. You create the normal .adif file from HAMRS logging software. Then make copies of the .adif file, but instead use each of the other park codes for each file copy with the other park code. 10 QSO's at a single park counts your activation, times three!
The 2-fer, 3-fer, 4-fer, and actually 5-fer occurs for activators in many places in the USA; usually where POTA trails run through a POTA park; like the Appalachian Trail runs through many states and their respective state parks.
To claim the 'Support Your Parks' award you either have to activate a POTA park or work (hunt) a POTA park activator during the weekend. Once you have the award, it will be in your My Awards drop down menu from your POTA call sign.
If you activate a POTA park, your .adif log needs to be uploaded to the POTA websire. If you work a POTA park, the activator will upload proof (their .adif file) of you working the park during this special event.
Either way, you must be a member of parksontheair.com . It is free to register, if you haven't done so already.
