Subject: Al Katz
I am very sad to report that Al Katz passed away this morning. I've been telling lunch attendees about his recent health issues, but many of you might not be aware of the problems he started having several months ago. At 81 years young, he was still a professor at TCNJ and came into the office most days. He was one of these people that never seemed to age, so it is hard to realize that he was human just like the rest of us.
A little over a year ago, I changed our lunch day from Friday to Monday after I had to reschedule once and found that day to be much easier for people to attend. Al had a regularly scheduled Friday lunch, so he pretty much showed up at all the lunches once the day was switched. We can feel lucky that we were able to connect with him over the past year or so.
I will forward additional information when I get it, but below is the email that came out at MACOM from Roger Dorval. Roger worked at Lockheed Martin (or one of the predecessors) for a few years, but then left to join Al's Linearizer Technology company. The two of them with Gene Hoffman ran the company since the early 1990s, and then sold it to MACOM a little over a year ago.
It is with great sadness and heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of Dr. Allen Katz.
Our leader, and friend, for so many years passed away at his daughter’s home early this morning.
He was a great influence, friend, and teacher to so many of us and an icon in the engineering, teaching and HAM communities.
Please keep him and his family in your prayers.
We will send along any additional information as we receive it.
Thanks,
Sharyn Belle
