Could grant funding be used to purchase equipment necessary to allow remote access to one (or more) of the club machines via the Internet? Something like EchoLink? This system could be password protected and/or restricted to users prescreened and approved by the club to limit intrusion by non licensed individuals.
>I for one would enjoy having the ability to qso with friends and club members back east now and then. In fact, I would be willing to pay an annual remote user membership fee (possible new class of club membership?).
I had not considered a "private" echo link before. I have long been "anti-remote access" for some time due to the
potential for abuse but your idea has some merit. The only thing needed at this point is some study.
Internet access is now less of an issue what with T-Mobil has $50 per month 5G connectivity. $600 per year may be
doo-able with adequate funding. Unfortunately AEDC specifically excludes that type of thing so $$ must be generated
elsewhere.
And - No, the County is not going to give us IP access to the outside world nor permit outside access to their internal
networks.
Lets start up an E-Mail conversation to figure out the "hows.
>I miss the CRA gang and attending club meetings, too. Clubs out here are so informal, and meet on odd days and times. If the club could feature a link on the W2CRA website that would allow those unable to attend meetings in person via Skype or some other service via the Internet I would use it. I would be glad to pay annual membership if I could attend via two way streaming meeting service.
>I know my suggestions represent a minority of members so the value of such resources is relatively low. It could offer an opportunity for handicapped and homebound hams to join the club and interact with the membership.
I thought we were doing "hybrid" meeting via Zoom? Len?
>Just a couple of ideas I thought of and thought I would run it by you. If you think there is merit to either, please submit them for consideration. If not, just dump them in the bit bucket.
Reasonable ideas are ALWAAYS welcome - especially those that have had some thought behind them.
