Please see the following regarding the new snow squall warnings that will be issued by the National Weather Service, effective November 1, 2018.  https://weather.com/storms/winter/news/2018-10-16-nws-snow-squall-warning
The January 2018 announcement by NOAA about the new snow squall warnings indicated that they would not be sent using the SAME (Specific Area Message Encoding), warning announcement system; however, this latest article indicates that that system will be used.  If you have a SAME-enabled NOAA All-Hazards radio, check to find out the code for snow squalls so that you may enter it into your radio so that you are properly and timely notified.  Many scanners, Amateur Radios and handheld FRS/GMRS radios have the SAME notification feature.
If you do not have a NOAA All-Hazards radio with SAME notifications, please consider getting one for home, work and in your vehicle.  While some emergency notifications are sent via the EAS (Emergency Alert System) and over cell phones, not all notifications are received by all cell phones.  According to the latest information, FEMA and wireless carriers are not sending out snow squall warnings at this time, so you will not receive them via cell phone for the immediate future.  They will most likely be added later, but no date has been set.
