** The Great 2017 Solar Eclipse and The Solar Eclipse QSO Party **
TOMORROW NIGHT!!
The Fair Lawn Amateur Radio Club will feature a presentation on the upcoming solar eclipse and the Ham Radio Science Citizen Investigative (HamSCI) project.
Dr. Nathaniel Frissell (W2NAF) will speak about the upcoming 21 August solar eclipse and the help amateurs can provide in obtaining propagation data by being on the air that day.
Frissell is a post doctoral research associate at the New Jersey Institute of Technology Center for Solar-Terrestrial Research (NJIT-CSTR). He completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in Spring 2016 at the SuperDARN HF radar laboratory at Virginia Tech.
The presentation will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017 starting at 7:00 PM at the Fair Lawn Senior Center, 11-05 Gardiner Road in Fair Lawn, NJ. The event is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

** Possible ISS SSTV opportunity TONIGHT **
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of ARISS there MIGHT be an opportunity to receive Slow Scan TV (SSTV) from the International Space Station (ISS) tonight. Straight over pass from 2256 to 2306 LOCAL. 145.80 MHz +/- 5khz for doppler shift (listen high :56-:00, on freq :00-03, and low :03-06). There are all sorts of SSTV decoding programs available on the web for PC and mobile devices. I know folks who have been able to decode pictures with a cell phone app "acoustically coupled" to an HT. ** Licensing Class **
The Cherryville Repeater Association, in Hunterdon County, will be holding Technician licensing classes on two consecutive weekends, August 12-13 & August 19-20. They run 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Saturday afternoon, and 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Sunday afternoon. Classes are being held at the Riegel Ridge Community Center in Holland Township, NJ. There is no charge for the classes.
A testing session is offered following the class on the second Sunday (8/20 @ 3:00 PM). Exams will be available for all class levels – Technician, General and Amateur Extra. The Exam Fee is $15.
