All,

Having been unsuccessful in identifying the hardline currently running
from our building and the old tower and not wanting to throw away $70
on connectors that don't fit I have decided to go with plan "B"

147.375 - HELP!
I'm going to attempt to locate an appropriate, modern radio to use as
an exciter. My preference is to find a 25W Motorola Radius or CM
series mobile (NOT a Maxtrac or GM300) such as an M33DGC10A1AA
Moto Model Number Breakdown:
M - Mobile
3 - power - 2 is 25W. 4 is high power and will NOT drop to 7W we need
DCG - Radius ID but may be different
20 - wide band
A - 2 channel - more OK but a waste
1 - low split but a 2 can be re tuned with some difficulty
AA - Ignore

Worst case I can use an Alinco DR-135 but there is a REAL issue in
that "someone" can "bump" a control and fry the amp with 50W into it's
10W max input. This applies to ANY "Ham" radio; they can't be locked
down.

Modify something to "work"? NEVER AGAIN! I can help it, a modified
radio will NEVER again find it's way into the system simply because it
becomes dependant on having someone able to re-create the modification
as they (modifications) are NEVER properly documented, frequently use
"unobtanium" parts and don't necessarily provide "Neighbor Friendly"
operation.

With some help (Hint, Hint) I can also "strip" the case from our 100+
pound MSF5000 high band radio and rack mount it but: it's 100W and
will run AC only (no battery). Eventually it will be our backup w/
24V battery supply.. Chip, of M&W, (our patron Moto guy) has offered
to program it and make sure it's set up right.

444.85
Again, I'll need help to move it (hand truck) from the RACES room to
the county transmitter building, strip it and rack mount it. I hope
to have the new duplexer tuned this weekend. Again, Chip will do the
programming and final checkout for us.

BUT!

The tower will still come down Nov. 4th, no matter what.
If we go off-the-air for more than 90 days we are subject to loss of
coordination. If we loose coordination 375 will be assigned to the 2M
wait list and, in all likelihood we will NEVER get 375 back. For
certain we will NEVER get another 2M wide area coordination back
simply due to objections from both LIMARC and Lancaster.

Summary:
Need help with strong back, able to use a screwdriver and follow
directions.

Finally - PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THE LIST! The list can have up to 24
hours delay. If you reply to help (don't need to know if you aren't)
reply to MY E-Mail address.

Tks,
Bill - WB1GOT
