>From the W2GD blog I retrieved the following
information about John's progress. He had his
operation on Monday and is in the process of
recuperating today. Here's the information:
As reported earlier, the surgery went well. They
repaired the most critical section of the pelvis,
but it took longer than expected, so the
non-critical part did not get bolted together, and
will just heal on its own with time.
John was alert, napped a bit, and we (me, John,
Paul, Elaine, Carla, and Nick) passed the time
yakking about ham radio and so forth. He's kind of
stuck in a nearly-flat position which is not real
comfortable, but is able to eat, drink his coffee,
and generally get on with the healing process. In
a couple of days, they'll put the back brace back
on and he'll be able to sit up more.
Every once in a while, I catch him looking at his
feet while he wiggles his toes and smiles. This
whole episode could have had a much more
unpleasant outcome.
Give him a few more days before flooding his room
with phone calls. If you know him well enough to
have his cellphone number, call that and leave a
message if he has it turned off for a nap. He'll
call you back.
