Our annual Hamfest is only a few days away! As
we come down to the wire, I need to remind you all
that we can really use all the help we can get. I
hope many of you who haven't signed up on the
signup board I've been bringing to meetings will
still be there to help. If you didn't get a chance
to sign up and will be there, could you email me
and let me know you're coming? If you can't be
there for the whole event, let me know when you
can be there! Every bit helps.
BRING YOUR HT. Talk-in operates on the .375
repeater, inside, we use 147.540 SIMPLEX.
Here's the schedule:
Friday March 23
4:00 pm to approx 7:00 or 7:30 - Setup
tables, remove chairs, set up kitchen, pickup
Hamfest items from the trailer, setup PA system
and speakers. The rented tables are also delivered
at 4:00 p.m., so we need four people who can be
there a little before four to unload the tables.
Set up Talk-in.
Saturday March 24
5:00 a.m. members arrive and go to
assigned locations. Still need parking and
security. Coffee should have started by approx.
4:00 a.m. and should be ready by five. Talk-in
opens up as soon after five as possible.
6:00 Vendors begin arriving. Help is
needed with Bill, WB1GOT since there are two
vendor doors to cover. Help also needed getting
larger vendors, like KJI into the cafeteria so
other vendors can come in. Security needed at all
doors to ensure only pink (red) vendor tickets go
into the vending area.
8:00 Doors open for buyers
9:00 VE session. Held in classrooms down
the hallway from the vendor entrance. If someone
wants to take the exam but not buy a ticket, they
may do so, and must follow the hall around to the
classroom. They are not permitted onto the selling
floor without a ticket.
10:00 SkyWarn training. Held in another
classroom, same thing holds true, a ticket
purchase isn't required, but it's not likely
anyone is coming JUST for SkyWarn.
Around Noon, many vendors begin packing up
to head out. That actually works well, as they can
exit more orderly by spreading out the departures.
Cleanup begins in the kitchen.
From noon to about 2:30 (that's usually
the latest) we put tables back where they go,
bring the round tables back, chairs too, and move
the rented tables to the waiting truck. Items that
came from the trailer need to go back also. Once
we're done, go home and relax!
A word about the club table: If you have a
few items you want to sell at the club table,
here's how it works. You can bring the items
Friday night if you want, but remember there is no
overnight security. Your best bet is to bring them
early Saturday. Please don't empty out your
basement, but four or five items from several
members will make for an enticing table.
With EACH item you should have two index
cards. Make sure your call and name are on both
cards. Both cards should have the item name, and
one one card write a brief description of the
item, and the ASKING PRICE. On the other card,
which will be kept in a box by the club table
crew, put your LOWEST PRICE YOU WILL ACCEPT. That
way the club table folks can negotiate for you,
knowing what your lowest price is. After the
hamfest you can collect your money for any sold
items, and any items not sold MUST BE REMOVED BY
THE OWNER--THAT'S YOU.
The hamfest is almost our sole source of
income for the club. We need the help of everyone
to make it a success. I hope I can count on you
all! Thanks in advance!
Barry, K2BC Hamfest Chair
