Dear New England Club President:

I know that you care about your club. You also care about Amateur Radio and keeping it strong. Amateur Radio needs strong clubs, and strong clubs need new members to grow and stay relevant. This is why I am leading the 2022 Project Big E effort. Project Big E will help clubs in New England by attracting prospective licensees––hams who will become the club members of tomorrow.

The Big E is the largest fair on the East Coast and the fifth largest fair in the country. Last year nearly 1.5 million people attended the Big E. The average attendance can reach as high as 195,000 visitors per day. There’s never been a better time to showcase modern ham radio to the public than now. I have secured booth space in the Better Living Center, which is the largest and most popular building at the fair. It’s very likely that 40,000 to 60,000 people will pass by the booth every day!

Project Big E will feature a special events station, N1E, operating during the entire 17 days of the event, plus 2m FM, D-Star and DMR. One of the most exciting aspects of Project Big E is a planned ARISS (Amateur Radio aboard the International Space Station) contact for attending school kids––along with other activities designed to introduce our hobby to younger people.

We need your help to make Project Big E a success. We are looking for clubs and hams in each state to participate. All clubs that participate will receive contact information of visitors who want to learn more about Amateur Radio and perhaps earn their license. This will be a tremendous opportunity for your club to reach out and mentor those prospective hams to ensure that they start––and stay––excited in the hobby.

We can’t do it without you! We need your club members’ help in staffing the booth, talking to the public, and operating the special event station. Please––spread the word to your members and urge them to sign up.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime project that can benefit clubs and Amateur Radio far into the future!
