Hello to all,       With the winter storm that is currently impacting the area, it currently appears that our section of the state will see its largest impacts in the way of rain, wind and potentially some icing. Region 2 has a small staff on hand at their regional EOC as of 07:15 Local time and the State EOC in Framingham is staffed and at full operations as of 21:00 last evening. John Miller (N1UMJ) is on standby to respond to Region #2 EOC to assist with communications needs should they become necessary.        Given the nature of the expected impacts in our part of the state at this time, I am asking that RACES operators continue to monitor conditions in their communities with special attention to infrastructure and road closures and report those via local Skywarn nets. Please follow locally defined protocols and plans as set forth my your community EMDs regarding local activation. If any operators feel that there is a communications need to activate Sector nets, please contact me by phone or pass that information up through the Skywarn/ARES nets in your area. From there I can get any concerns to Region #2 EOC and we can bring up the appropriate Sector RACES nets. Any stations that activate in support of infrastructure monitoring for this storm are asked to please e-mail me with a quick report of their activities, any messages handled and the amount of time spent attending to monitoring and reporting activities.         I have received multiple inputs from operators who want to make sure they are at the proper level of activation for this event. I would like to let you all know that I really appreciate the attention to local coverage and MEMA definitely appreciates our ability to blanket the area with operators who are able to give them real-time disaster intelligence. It is situations exactly like this one, where the dividing line between nuisance and severe impacts can hinge on less than an inch of ice accumulation on branches and where 3-4 degrees of temperature change can have very real consequences, that stand to highlight the value that the RACES, ARES and Skywarn programs provide to our local and state Emergency Management partners. Thank you all!
Sincerely, Michael Leger (N1YLQ)
