Hello to all,

I hope this note finds everyone well particularly with the recent series of strong weather events we have had in the last few weeks in our section.

I am writing to remind everyone that tomorrow, Monday November 5th , 2018 is the first non-holiday Monday of the month and, as such, is our monthly RACES/ACS drill night.  I would like to thank all operators who assisted with last month's nets. This month's nets will again be run facing the challenge of not having use of the MEMA Region #2 Headquarters communication setup.

For the last several months we have been operating "remotely" with local net control operators for our Sector Nets. This month will be a continuation of that operating posture. Sector 2D and the HF net have Net Control Operators already designated and ready to go. This month I (N1YLQ) will be able to operate as Net Control for Sector 2A. Sectors 2B and 2C do not have NCOs lines up at this time. Operators who would like to act as Net Control for any of these nets are asked to please e-mail me at WC1MAB at gmail.com and I can get a copy of the Net Preamble and Roll Call List over to you straight away.

Last month we had a couple of operators run the nets as net control operators who had not done so previously. From what I heard the nets went quite well. Sector 2B (Plymouth County area) reported no check-ins besides that of Net Control. I ask that any operators who have the time, please try to check into sector nets from near by sections. This will allow our newer Net Control Operators to practice fielding nets with a strong check-in count and will also serve to help practice with relays or modified sector assignments in the event that a single repeater is out of service.

I and MEMA very much appreciate everyone's flexibility and willingness to work together to overcome our temporary state of stationless-ness! I have had some operators asking me when/if we are going to be having another in person meeting of the RACES operators. At the moment such a meeting is on hold until we have a new home for Region #2 operations. Once that happens, we will definitely work on finding a way to get everyone together again as well as a chance to check out the new station setup!

For those operators who serve as Net Control Operators, please try to remember to send me a list of the stations and communities that check into your nets. The numbers are reported to MEMA to show them our level of participation. I am also working on a graphical map based report to show which parts of our section have strong coverage and which areas may need a more targeted recruitment campaign to improve our ability to provide back-up communications in an emergency.

For the Region 2 operators and Net Control team members, I would like to know who may be available to assist as a NCO from home. Any operators who would like to take a net, please respond and let me know if and how you might be participating. Since we will not have an operator at WC1MAB to maintain a log at Region 2 Headquarters, it would be very helpful for Net Control Stations to please e-mail their net reports to me at WC1MAB at gmail.com in the days following the nets.

As always, if anyone has been interested in participating as Net Control Stations, the call for operators is an open one. This is a great skill to practice and can be a big help for our region in the event that the State EOC is operating in lieu of the Region Office, but communications still need to happen. If any local RACES operators who have participated in nets recently are interested in acting as NCO please let me know and we will see how we can get you into the fray. As always, if anyone is receiving this note and does not wish to receive further messages of this kind, please reply and let me know. Also, if you know someone who would benefit from being on this list, please have them contact me at WC1MAB at gmail.com and I will add them to this distribution. Thank you all!

If anyone has any questions or comments I can be reached by e-mail or cell phone. Thanks for being a part of our team and I look forward to hearing back on who can participate this month.

Sincerely,

Michael Leger (N1YLQ)
