Hello to all,
As many, if not all, of you are now aware, our region is
expecting a particularly powerful nor'easter that is expected to
last throughout the day tomorrow. This storm is anticipated to bring
heavy snowfall and possible blizzard conditions to parts of our area
of responsibility. I have not received any requests from Region #2
staff to activate at this time, but I would like to ask that all
operators maintain a "soft stand-by" for the duration of the
storm. While the forecast calls for primarily lighter, fluffier snow
than the recent damaging storms in many parts of the Commonwealth,
there is some potential for heavier, wetter snow to occur in coastal
areas. I do ask that local RACES officers stay in touch with their
EMDs in the event that the snow does turn out to be a threat to
infrastructure and be mindful that travel will become treacherous
starting early in the morning tomorrow. Any served entities that
decide that they DO want communication support may have to wait
until after the storm subsides later in the day.
In addition to this "soft stand-by" for RACES operators, I would
like to point out that Eastern MA ARES has been placed in a formal
stand-by mode by the Section Emergency Coordinator Marek Kozubel
(KB1NCG) and Skywarn will be initiating formal ops at NWS Taunton
beginning at 4AM tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. Any reports of
infrastructure impacts can be routed to MEMA Headquarters in
Framingham by way of NWS Taunton Ops in the event that no
RACES/ACS net is in operation or available. All operators are
asked to support these operations if at all possible.
Any changes in this posture will be communicated via e-mail or
by a call-up and roll call on the Sector RACES repeaters during the
day. Thank you to all for maintaining your readiness over what has
turned out to be a particularly trying few weeks of weather events!
Sincerely,
Michael Leger (N1YLQ)
