As we discussed at last nights meeting there are a couple of Public Service Events coming up in Norton that need your help.
Norton is trying to pass a Proposition 2 1/2 Override. The Vote on it will be held on Election Day Tuesday April 25th No help is needed for that day. However if the Override passes then a Special Town Meeting will be called to decide how the money is spent.
This will take place on Monday May 8th at Norton High School 64 West Main St Norton. It is expected to draw crowds of 2000 or more.
Our task will be to work in conjunction wit Norton EMA and Norton PD to effect the orderly flow of cars and the orderly parking of cars on
all of the lots of the High School and Elementary School. As well as the safety of pedestrians. There is also talk of using St. Mary`s Church lot and the Middle School Lot across the street and busing them to the High School. If so we will need coverage for that also.
We will need Volunteers to meet at the High School at 6:00PM to receive their assignments as the meeting starts at 7:00PM.
We will need only a hand full of Volunteers for the Exit at the end of the meeting at 10:00PM. It is anticipated that there will be a second
session on another night but I will know more about that later.
If the Override fails at the ballot box on Election Day then there is no need to have the Parking Plans in effect as the crowds will be much smaller. We will notify of the cancellation.
The second event is Norton Founders Day on Saturday June 17th. at the Yelle Elementary School 64 West Main St. Norton. This is Norton`s Annual Family Fun Day and picnic.. It features Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, Field Games, Dance Bands, Vendor Booths a wide variety of food in the Food Court. It opens to the Public at 5:00PM and ends with Fireworks at 9:00PM. This is a family event so bring the spouse and kids.
Our role is the same as above Volunteers will report to the EMA Command post at the rear of the school at 4:00PM to receive their assignments. Supper is provided for EMA/Ham Volunteers. The night can cool down so plan accordingly.
For both events we will use VHF 2meter simplex, FRS radios for non hams and UHF Public Safety Frequencies. Volunteers should wear comfortable shoes and HiViz Vests and have a flashlight for directing traffic. If you don't have something to participate, we will have extra radios, vests and flashlights so don`t let that stop you from joining the fun.
For both events, I am asking you to send me an email outlining your availability for either or both events. If you can't stay for the entire event that is OK too. Every hour of Volunteer time is very worthwhile and welcome.
Thank you
