Good afternoon,

This week, July 17-23, has been proclaimed by Governor Baker<http://www.mass.gov/eopss/docs/mema/hurricane-preparedness-week-2016.pdf> to be Hurricane Preparedness Week. While Atlantic Hurricane Season began June 1st, most tropical storm systems that have impacted New England have struck during the months of August and September. That's why July is a great time to prepare before a storm approaches. Recent storms such as Tropical Storm Irene in 2011 and Hurricane Sandy in 2012, as well as past hurricanes such as Hurricane Bob in 1991 are reminders that Massachusetts residents and visitors must prepare for the next hurricane.

Throughout the week, MEMA will feature hurricane preparedness topics on our Twitter<http://twitter.com/MassEMA> and Facebook<http://www.facebook.com/MassachusettsEMA> accounts, and on the MEMA website<http://www.mass.gov/mema/>. In addition, Mass.gov will feature a hurricane preparedness blog<http://blog.mass.gov/blog/safety/hurricane-preparedness-be-ready-before-the-storm/> from MEMA and hurricane preparedness signs will be featured on digital billboards across the state. We ask you to join us in encouraging residents and businesses of Massachusetts to prepare for hurricanes and tropical storms by determining if they live or work in a hurricane evacuation zone<http://www.mass.gov/eopss/agencies/mema/emergencies/hurricanes/hurricane-evacuation-zones.html>, making family emergency plans<http://www.mass.gov/eopss/agencies/mema/be-prepared/plan/>, building an emergency kit<http://www.mass.gov/eopss/agencies/mema/be-prepared/kit/>, and staying informed<http://www.mass.gov/eopss/agencies/mema/be-prepared/be-informed/massachusetts-alerts.html>. We have developed ready-to-use graphics and Tweets (attached) - please feel free to use this information on your social media platforms and share with your residents, business and public safety partners.

With your help, we can improve the preparedness and resiliency of residents and businesses in the Commonwealth.

Thank you!
