Subject: Run to The Rock Event
Hello all fellow HAMS, The South Shore Hospital Amateur Radio Club has been asked to once again coordinate Amateur Radio communications for the Run To The Rock Road Race. This large event will be held this year on September 12, 2015. We are seeking volunteers for this 4 1/2 hour morning event (7:30am to noon). The Race will continue to use 3 race courses as it has in the past which encompasses a large geographic area of Plymouth. We need approximately 35-40 licensed Amateur Radio Volunteers to effectively cover all 3 courses and stations. The Run to the Rock 5K, 10K, and 1/2 Marathon takes place the first Saturday after Labor Day in September each year. All race proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Plymouth and has grown to be the largest single fundraising event that the club holds each year. For complete information on the event, please visit: http://www.runtotherock.webs.com. This is a great event for those new to the hobby and I or public service who are inexperienced and would like to give it a try. The need for previous experience for most positions is very low and we have the ability to mentor you through it. For those who have previous experienced we also have a few locations that are more demanding. If you can't volunteer but know of someone that would be interested please pass this message along. The only requirements are a Technician class license, a 2 meter portable radio with a fully charged battery, our frequencies programmed in and ready to go on race day, and your own transportation around Plymouth. For those who have worked with us in the past if you would like to volunteer again this year and reserve your same assignment just let us know (early). This is a fun time and volunteering your time is greatly appreciated by the event organizers, The Boys and Girls Club of Plymouth, public safety agencies, and the South Shore Hospital Amateur Radio Club. It takes a lot of volunteers to provide communications coverage for 3 simultaneous races with 1,600+ runners. If you are available to help out for a short period of time (4 1/2 hours) we'd love for you to join us. Please send us an email or drop us a line and include all the information below (even if you think we already have it) to ssharc at gmail.com Your full name.Your Call Sign.Telephone number (cell preferably). Your t-shirt size. We will send out race and frequency info, assignments, basic operating guidelines etc. several days before race day or earlier as the information becomes available. 73'sWe look forward to hearing from you soon.
