ubject: Hams needed for BAA 5K and 1 Mile Races in Boston

am support is needed for the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) 5K and 1
ile Races to be held on Sunday, 15 April 2012 in Boston's Back Bay. The 5K
ace is a sanctioned international event which has become a Boston
radition. The 1 mile races are invitational for the outstanding boys and
irls of the eight communities along the Boston Marathon course.

All races start in the Copley Square area and all finish at the official
oston Marathon Finish Line. Hams report at 0700 and all events should be
ver before 1130.

Ham public service is interesting and offers fun experiences. The
ommunication load for this event is light, but safety and support for the
articipants and staff are always our primary concern. It is an excellent
vent for hams new to public service to gain experience. Note that while
his is the day before the Boston Marathon, no logistical interference is
xpected between these events, and our communications will be independent of
he Marathon.

A 2-meter hand-held is needed. A dual-band radio is desirable, but not
equired. An antenna better than the "rubber duck" that came with your
adio should be used for all public service events. Be sure you charge your
adio's battery before the event. An extra battery pack will be most
elpful.

If you can help with this event on Sunday, 15 April 2012, please reply with
ll of the following information as soon as possible. If you have already
olunteered, bear with me and reply to this message, also.

Full name
On-air name
Call sign
Postal mailing address (including 9-digit ZIP code)
Evening phone
Day phone
Cell phone
Email address
Does your 2-meter radio have CTCSS (PL)?
Do you have a dual-band radio?
Do you have a magnetic mount antenna?
T-shirt size

Let me know if you have volunteered for this event before and would like the
ame assignment. While we cannot guarantee requested assignments, we will
ry our best to meet your preference. Please respond as quickly as you can.
f you know other hams who would like to volunteer, ask them to send in the
bove information.

Your assistance is valuable. Please let me know promptly if you can help.
e will get the assignments and more details to you as soon possible. If
ou have already volunteered, bear with us and reply to this message also.
or liability purposes at this event, you are considered members of the
oston Amateur Radio Club and covered by its liability insurance policy.

You might also note that April and May are busy months for public service
vents requesting ham support. We will also be coordinating hams for the
ollowing events:
29 April - Run of the Charles Canoe and Kayak Races - Charles River,
eedham to Boston
12 May - Multiple Sclerosis Journey of Hope Walk - Natick
20 May - Brain Tumor Bicycle Rides - Waltham to Concord
.and more in June and October
Your assistance will be valuable for these events also. Notices will be
ent closer to the event schedule. Help if you can.

Got questions? Don't hesitate to get in touch!
