I picked up a Kenwood TH-K2ATK2 at HRO on Saturday. For $107.95, you can
have a brand new, 2m HT. For this price, you only get an AA case, but this
radio puts out 3.5-4 watts on a set of fresh AA's, a rarity these days. It
has CTCSS/Tone/DCS, tons of memories, and is a "ham only" radio, meaning it
will work great on the bands without picking up everything from DC-to-light.
Its metal belt clip is "old school" style and will satisfy most hams. The
display is excellent and well-lit by a green LED. If you are looking for a
2m HT to throw in your go-kit, or something new to play with, it's nice. I
would highly recommend it to new hams on a budget.
My only complaint is, being that it's a Kenwood, the speaker-mic connectors
are reversed from the typical Icom/Yaesu/Alinco style. For $107.95, I can
get over it since I own other Kenwoods and have several mics.
