All,

 In our statewide Simulate Emergency Testl this past spring, one action
item we took was to provide training on the proper formatting of
messages on behalf of EMA directors for RACES Operators.

 The RACES Radiogram is used by local and state RACES Operators to
communicate messages on behalf of our served agencies, the EMA director.
Any time you are asked to pass a message on behalf of the EMA director
over Amateur Radio RACES frequencies, you should be doing it in RACES
Radiogram format. The training class we have produced will help you
understand how these messages are assembled, provide you a means to ask
questions to be answered by local experts, and will offer the
opportunity to practice sending and receiving  messages. Attendees are
asked to bring a VHF or UHF handheld radio for the practice session.
This training is highly recommended for all RACES Radio Officers and
Operators.

 We currently have scheduled these RACES Radiogram training sessions
across the state.

 September 28, 2002 at 9am at MEMA Region 1 Headquarters in Tewksbury.
The scheduled trainer is Den Connors KD2S.  October 12, 2002 at 10am at
the Worcester Red Cross. The scheduled trainer is Bill Ricker N1VUX.
November 16, 2002 at 10am at MEMA Region 2 Headquarters in Bridgewater.
The scheduled trainer is Jim Ward N1LKJ.

 We are currently in the process of scheduling a training session in the
Springfield area.

 Please confirm your attendance at least a week in advance by email to
[email protected] or by leaving a message at the Massachusetts RACES
Hotline at 508-820-1428. Attendance may be limited to those
preregistered. Please send you name, which session you wish to attend,
and contact information so that we may confirm receipt of your message.

 All amateurs are welcome to attend.
