Subject: [EMA-Staff] re Section Manager nomination

Everyone,

It was nice to see many of you at Boxboro this weekend. I'm only sorry
for being unhealthy, and sneezing and coughing on those with whom I came
in close proximity to ;-(

There have been some new developments in the past 24 hours with respect
to the upcoming 2003-2004 term of office for ARRL Section Manager.

After much thought and reflection, Mike Neilsen has decided not to run
for the Section Manager position. Mike indicated to me that he would
like to stay on in his role as Section Emergency Coordinotor and
continue the work that he started
a little more than a year ago. I respect and understand Mike's
decision.
We
certainly have a great need for his dedication and skills in this area.
I still feel that Mike would make an excellent Section Manager, though.

I have also been giving the matter more thought in the past few days,
and I've decided to seek another term of office as your SM. It was not
my intention to "flip-flop" on this issue. There are, no doubt, other
volunteers in the section who are equal or superior to perform the SM
duties. I must admit, I was moved by several persuasive EMA members who
communicated to me their disappointment over my stated intentions not to
continue in the SM role.

I want to publicly thank Stan Laine for stepping forward and offering to
serve if Mike and I both opted out. Stan certainly falls in the
aforementioned category of volunteers who is equal or superior to
perform the SM role. Thank you, Stan!

And thanks to those of you who "twisted" my arm a little bit.

Having said all of this, there is still almost two weeks in which
potential candidates may submit petitions to seek the office of Section
Manager. A contested election is a definite possibility, as is the
possibility that another candidate might win. So, I may need your vote
in the near future!

73,

Phil

p.s. -- I will be out of town from August 27 until September 2 at the
Courage Center/Handi-HAM summer camp in Lake George, Minnesota. Please
contact Bob Salow, WA1IDA or Mike Neilsen, W1MPN if any urgent matters
arise.
