I don't know specifically about the NR-7, but some
sockets for tubes like the 01, 01A, etc., require that
the tube be turned before it can be removed.  There is
a small pin in the base of the tube which allows these
types of sockets to be used as well as the "normal"
types.

I have a couple of sets in my antique/vintage radio
collection that use these types of sockets.
