Mine is definitely a newer one, and the dial was certainly not silver.  I also 
have an NC101X and its dial appears to be a little "off-black" (although not as 
much as the HRO).  So I will assume that it was supposed to be black.

Another question for HRO owners:  The previous owner of mine has bypassed the B+ 
switch on the front panel.  I suspect that he did this because it was arcing or 
unreliable.  Until I get a replacement, is it safe to change coils without 
turning the radio off?
