[Vintage-Radio] KLH

The KLH model 20 was the first high quality "compact" stereo out there. They
were made in the late '60s, in the early days of the "transistor" era, and
cost $400, which was a boat-load of dollars at that time. These are capable
of excellent performance, with especially good FM . They had Garrard
changers, which are not particularly recommended today, as their tracking
weight is excessive. I think some of the late models ( possibly including
the "plus" model ) came with Dual changers, which were much better.
Restoration issues center around electrolytic capacitors, which died like
flies, even while these units were somewhat still "current". Be sure to
check the output coupling capacitors, a very common cause of "dead channel".
They also used germanium transistors, which will deteriorate with age. One
other issue-- these did not use the "common ground" scheme that nearly all
other manufacturers had gone to by this time. This is only important to know
in some applications, such as testing with scopes / meters etc. Check one
channel at a time.
